I become a transparent eye-ball; I am nothing; I see all; the currents of the Universal Being circulate through me; I am part or particle of God.

Ralph Waldo Emerson

Samson vs. Malchus

I was just thinking about Beethoven. Obviously a gifted man. But I wouldn't call him a musician. If anything, a mathematician. Music is *all* about the ear. You cannot separate the two. Beethoven's music makes sense- it makes absolute logical sense. It's all completely expected. That's not music! That's sound. Music shouldn't follow rules; music may intimate rules, but it must not follow them.

I don't mean in any way to squash Beethoven's talent though- he was great at what he did, despite his disability. But no! I would argue this: he was great at what he did *because* of his disability.

Blind people, on the other hand, make great musicians. When one sense doesn't work, the others only become more sensitive- we all know this.

Just my thoughts.
